class and status analysis- shameless

The clip starts with some dull subdued colours, these are representative of lower class people as the colour relates to their lives relative lack of fulfilment. Be it financially or happiness. As a viewer we can see that the colours have started to change colour due to age and treatment, this could also indicate that they have little money to repaint the walls.
The colours on the males clothes also coincide with the colours of the decor. The relatively dark colours of this scene could be aiming to represent that he is bringing darkness to the family, it also emphasises what he is saying with could give the idea that he is drunk, this is usually associated and viewed as a 'dark' think.

The next scene shows us the rest of the family which are dressed in lighter more appealing colours, this is highly representative of the fact that they bring the light into the family that otherwise wouldn't have it, there are still reminders of their background though as, there is a solid grey wall, this is indicative that lower class people (we are indicated that these people are) struggle to get away from their backgrounds no matter how hard they try.
The baby is dressed in pink, this is generally viewed as a happy upbeat colour, which links to them (in this case specifically the baby) being the ones to bring happiness in an otherwise sad environment that a lower class household maybe. It is often stereotyped that lower class members of society hold on to certain things for happiness, one of such stereotyped items is a baby.

Also noticeable is that they have a red front door, this could be perceived as danger, this is how these class of people are sometimes viewed. As danger is undesirable to people that could be the representation idea.

regional identity in TV drama - "our friends in the north"

analysis, camera angles, camera shots, camera movements, editing, mise-en-scene

In this clip it shows regional identity and I'm going to  be talk you through the stereotypes and the regional identity of these particular people.

In the opening scene it shows 2 couples, you immediately notice the accents of the people within 10seconds,as they greet each other you can tell by the way they talk. the way they moustache man looks is different as he has long hair and a heavy top lip moustache, furthermore you can tell his partner isn't from newcastle or even born and bread Newcastle

representation of disablity or less-abled

Why is the clip funny?
this is funny as it shows wills reaction as funny not the less-abled person but in many ways this does show and have an impact on how funny a viewer may find the comedy in this certain part of the episode as the reaction caused by the catalyst looks and sounds like a funny way to respond as its very aqward scene as it shows a silence after will apologises in panic several times
How is the disabled girl being represented?
she is being shown as someone who is in a wheel chair where it is suggested she has a carer with her, in many ways she is presented as pathetic or pitiable as she is displaying and acting the way this ideology is described as she when she was faced with a Frisbee hitting her she has a breakdown  furthermore it is presented as humour because according to Paul hunts 10 aspects of disability we laugh at the misfortune of others and this has been the same way since the ancient greeks, this humour is d
based on a disability as it in a TV comedy it makes you automatically want to laugh
Are we meant to laugh at the disabled person?
in many way you could argue yes we do s we laugh at the misfortune of others furthermore we like to laugh as its not a common everyday thing so therefore we don't understand it so we laugh because in many ways we don't know how to react the less-abled person having break down however you could argue we're meant to laugh at will reaction as he panics and the scene gets very aqwardly silent as he stands there so he could b the reason why we laugh but we in many ways the less-abled person is apart of the joke but will is he main part of it
Are they the 'butt' of the joke?
the character 'will' is the base of the joke as he is the catalysed reaction to us laughing at the less-abled person  as he reacts in a way that panicked that we find funny so the less-abled person causes a cringe worthy scene is it goes silent and no really accepts an apology even though it is a accident
How do you think disabled people respond to this?
the less-abled would find this offensive as it shows them as pitiable and humorous when a condition or a disability isn't funny and they don't laugh as unlike us they understand what it is like the be less-abled and they don't find it funny as a society cultivated to think we should pity the disabled

The importance of cross media convergence and synergy in production, distribution and marketing

Marvels avengers assemble was produced and was the biggest films of 2012, marvel is owned by Disney so therefore this automatically tells us and big budget as they are one of the ‘big six’. Disney which own marvel always or so have of the time have big budget films, the amount of money that went into the avengers was £220,000,000 and for a movie to make twice the money and cost of the film, avengers assemble on gross profit made $623,279,547 which is well over double the production. Marvel were in association with paramount pictures, this means that the big six work together to make and produce films this is an example of avengers assemble. This shows the size of the company Disney a sit has paramount another one of the big six to help in the production and to gain half dozen of A list stars, this represents how much power big holly wood movie companies have over the way films are made and how they are done with which companies. Other small companies were involved like BLT communications in which they designed and created the posters yet they weren’t credited or deemed to be important enough to be put within the film production or for the exhibition of the movie itself, furthermore this shows that small companies work along side the big six to help produce the movies but don’t take much credit and some aren’t even credited for doing something as important as the marketing. This shows that small companies work with bigger global companies to assist publishing and distributing the movie, the size is represented as they get all the credit for a good film and the smaller franchises have non credit for there work in sound effects, poster design etc. this demonstrates again the power that large global companies have a lot of power and can use this size to do what they want. Overall the importance of cross media convergence is vital to film production as its all the small companies working together to produce posters, sound tracks etc. and larger global companies to work together and produce together which gets a larger audiences due to the size and popularity of the big six.

representation of gender in embed clip? (essay style question)

the 4 areas of textual analysis are represented by age in this clip very well as it shows the same camera angle on men and women for the police inspectors walking out the house at the state of the clip where the sounds very intense and fast as if they  need to move fast, tho shot pans across fast to to track them furthermore it shows an argument between the two policemen which would explain the intense sound effects at the start. the clip varies the age representation through out as it contain children and fully grown men and women.

the shot opens with the police being shown outside the house focusing on two in particular as they would have importance the case in the tv drama wire in the blood, it shows a number of shots as its a tracking shot that pans across the from the door t show a large number of policemen  surrounding the house where you hear a certain type of sound effects that are intense but serious, it continues on to show the argument close up to see the facial emotion of the actors. it then continues on with a shot where the male walks of and women stayed butt this shows significance as it shows the camera angles the same height of the male and female showing there male and female axe equals within the same scene as there more commonly looked down at as sexual objects and men  more dominant and more intelligent but this clip at the shows equality as the women sound more intelligent.

the clip moves onto the house scene of the female officer that was shown in the first scene where its a worm  hole sot where it pan down in a verticle way to show the way the stairs go which ties in with phone call as ht baby sitter hasn't turned up so there shot is showing and irresponsible possibly younger person which  the female officers day going down hill, this is shown by the shot going retile and down from the left the right. age is represented as the shot look down like a ariel shot to the child and a higher bearing shot on the mother, this shows representation of age as shows the adult more dominant and the child the submitter who does as he told which portrays them  as weak which is why the angle looks down on the child in particular. the sound in this scene is more crazy like something is going wrong or not the way it is wanted.

the shot moves to  a more dark scene where fit shows an extreme long shot of an abandoned looking house which is boarded up and an a tracking shot on the expensive mercedes car in which well dressed looking gentlemen walk out, this represents age as it shows more dominant males that would be stereo types to be well spoken, well dressed and well off, furthermore it show indie the side a mess and what looks like youths where the sound is intense and ark the camera angles look down upon the youths and up on the more richer superior people. this represents age as the youths are smoking and in a messy house which could be a drug house for squatters in which this would be a stereo typical young 20 year old. the rich men are represented as the more domino t as they have wealth, expensive cars etc. this angle is alms t a worm hole shot looking up a they  have the power the youths are the weaker, less powerful people.

the scene near the end changes as it goes to the male officer at the start and the child having fun with the whole mood changing in the scene a the sound changes and the camera movements become faster less slow as the scene isn't as intense and serious. this scene represents age as it show the male adult acting like a child rarer than being a baby sitter which this shows that the child acting similar as the camera looks down upon him again as he almost acts and behaves like the adult, ha vin fun  and a laugh. this is interesting as a the start he was portrayed a serious officer but this could represent his age as deep down he could a man child who's fun and only acts more grown up on the job.

overall age is represented very well in this clip as it shows the camera movements slow in the intense abandoned house scene and fast during the child scene. the sound alternates according the age representation as when the child is around the camera shot and angles are fast and during the more intense the scenes are it slows down and changes the angle looking down up on squatters and upon rich wealthy threatening men alternating the way they  are represented as they are youth and the richer are adults.

beyonce male gaze analyse

Beyonce

·      the music video opens with  beyonce look sweaty/sparkly and nude which  appeals for men a sits for men, which this is suggesting she is naked and this is showing women falling under the male gaze and how women are thought to look and behave as male music videos are nothing like females. Its closed up with  just shoulders and head shot as it showing how suggestive and sexual she looks.
·      It follows to a big close up of just her face again this show suggestive she is acting and the song is all about “making love” so its showing the male gaze of a women, her hand movements across her chest and the way she is slowly moving is demonstrating the sexual nature of the song the fact this song has been made for men as its not appealing to most women
·       It closes in on her lips a lot to show how seductive she is acting the music video and its showing slow movements of the lips which is making her look very very suggestive to the male audience, she is moving very slowly and gracefully which again is the male gaze upon women
·      this video also shows a male wrapping her arms around her which  again is showing he has the power as his “strong” arms are wrapped around her while she is wearing suggestive clothing furthermore this is showing a lot of cleavage and other areas which  is appealing to men  as its probably a man who directed the music video
·      the shots then  alternate with diffirent style effects and close ups of beyonce and the suggestive clothing she is wearing, this is falling all upon the male gaze view. This shows her moving very gracefully and slowly in the differentiating shots which is very suggestive and appealing to men as the song is all about “making love”

·         Shaw shank redemption

·         Marley and me

·         Captain America: winter soldier

I like these aspects of media because they provide many different types of genres which are there to interest us and are made for our enjoyment, the way the action films are done with all  the sound effects and all the camera angles and different types of shot to make that part of global media different And interesting when compared to other areas as there is more put into one production rather than split between 12 or so episodes in a TV series such as bad education, the inbetweeners etc.

Five favourite: songs

·         Bruno mars, lazy song

·         Imagine dragons, demon

·         Artic monkeys, fluorescent adolescence

·         The killers, mr.brightside

·         Kasabian, eez-eh

I like this aspect because it’s a massive industry and it differentiates for the different types of people with the types of music e.g. pop, rock. Indy etc. this is on a global scale and is in cultures and even part of religion, I like these songs because they are interesting and catchy and there memorable furthermore this industry caters for a lot of people and makes a lot of money and makes up most of our industry alongside, TV and movies.

Five favourite: TV shows

·         Bad education

·         Celebrity juice

·         Through the keyhole

·         The inbetweeners

I like this aspect of media the most as the people are good at talking to large crowds with confidence and they have the ability to talk of long periods of time with no script, furthermore everybody has there favourite comedian. this shows me that again there are many types of TV media out there and comedy is just one of many which makes a small % of the global industry.

(the mentalist) us drama:camera angles and shots and movements

regional identity
In the starting of this short clip, the camera is panning across to the left to show a possible victim and a wound this hints that a possible murder is occurring. furthermore this is an extreme long shot so the producer wants you to know what the scenery is like, so the audience knows that there is no one around. it then continues to close in on the hunter who carrying no weapon so this could be hinting the hunter(Jane) would just be stopping a common criminal.
It moves swiftly into a crabbing shot of the wounded man falling to floor where shot has move to long shot so the audience can see his wounds more clearly, this shows how badly he's been beaten possibly. the camera then moves to the hunter who pulls out a gun which is an indicator that he is trying to murder the man, or he is a culprit where he may have used forced as the victim/criminal would have been resisting arrest.
At 0.36 it shows a mid-close up on the FBI inspector showing his emotions and how relieved liked its a massive weight of his shoulders, the character may be or how angry he may be at the wounded man on the floor, this camera shot would have been shown to show the emotion of the particular characters or actors playing a certain role in the us TV drama. At 0.45 it shows the start of crabbing shows that stops at shoulder to show the state of the victim or possible which could show the audience that an action scene is about to start, furthermore its showing the vulnerability of the wounded character on the floor. it then quickly moves onto the FBI inspector going along side the person on the floor with in the next 10secs which shows the audience that this is an intense scene and it shows the audience that a man who implements the law to be very threatening and actually the bad guy in the scene, this shows a mid-close up which shows the hip to the head which is showing the wounds and how much pain the victim/criminal will be in again this is showing the vulnerability of the victim or possible criminal.
this develops into an over the shoulder shot/Ariel shot which is showing janes point of view and how physically capable the inspector will be, it also represents how much power he will have when compared to a 'commoner' or average citizen, the shot represents how power he will have as it ties in with the fact he's enforces the law and he has the capability to kill if he has too.
At 1.07 it shows janes face of emotions for a long time over a period of time, this shows relieve and anger as he grabs the wounded mans throat, this again links to the power he was chasing a murder and the producer wants to show the strength and authority he has over the man.
it then continues with close ups of the victim or red john and Jane, showing how wounded and how weak the killer is as he has been shot at by what is hinted towards Jane as he has the weapon and is strangling him even he's near or already dead.
At 3.19 it shows an intense scene in an office with 3 people sat on chairs, this shows them looking very distressed, the camera shot is long shot as it shows an empty room as if items have been moved out of them and closed down. this is telling audience that something may have gone wrong or a crime may have been committed showing the audience the camera shot for a specific reason as it would be important to the story line. At 3.24 it shows a phone in  a back with a big-close up as it show specific item in particular this would be of significance as it would be a piece of evidence for a crime that would have been committed.
the scene closes with Jane running while the camera is doing a crabbing/tracking shot in a slow motion way to show the emotions as he is running  as if he isn't going to see his friends again because he has done something wrong, this would have been shown to the audience because it will show all the emotions and all the children and families that he is running past that are going to find the body. showing the parents and children in the shot was important as it shows the killing in a public area that not confined and open with children everywhere. this is of significance as the opening shot shows an empty area.

film production- key roles

Stages of film production:

Development - This is simply the process of 'finding' a story. Ideas for films come from a variety of sources, they can range from novels, real life events to computer game adaptations. Once you've got an idea you'll need someone to write a pitch for you which you take to a film producer in an attempt to get some funding to make your film. Even at this very early stage you need a very clear idea of who you're aiming you film at so you can include elements that will appeal to them.

Pre-production - Once you've got funding you establish your budget and can begin to get a film crew together, you can storyboard the script. You also need break the script down into individual scenes and identify all the locations, props, cast members, costumes, special effects and visual effects needed.

Production - This is simply the process of 'making' the film. Provided you've done your job properly in the pre-production stage making the film should be straight forward. 'Film' is very expensive and difficult to store so an increasing number of film makers are using digital cameras to save money.

Post-production - During this stage you take all the 'film' you've shot and give it to a film editor. They will then begin putting it together. Special effects will be added, a soundtrack will be added, any missing dialogue will be re-recorded and added resulting in a 'rough cut'. This will be shown to the director and a test audience who will offer feedback. Often this causes scenes to be filmed and added or removed.

key roles and areas entail:

  • Writer-Scriptwriters are the incredibly talented people who write scripts for feature films, sitcoms, television dramas etc. these work hard during development creating the dialogue, the scenes, the acting roles and so on.
  • Producer-A movie producer is the person responsible for making sure an appealing, high-quality movie is produced on time and within budget.
  • casting director- also called talent directors, read scripts and collaborate with producers, directors, and writers to create breakdown notices, which are brief descriptions of the physical attributes, skills, and experience sought in actors to portray particular characters
  • director- Producers are responsible for facilitating a project from beginning to end. They are involved in every stage of the television programme, film or video, overseeing the project from start to finish, both in the studio and on location
  • film finance-is a subset of project finance, meaning the film project's generated cash flows rather than external sources are used to repay investors.
  • camera operator-A Camera Operator works with digital, electronic and film cameras in multi and single camera operational conditions, producing pictures for directors by combining the use of complex technology with creative visual skills
  • editor-Film Editors assemble footage of feature films, television shows, documentaries, and industrials into a seamless end product. They manipulate plot, score, sound, and graphics to refine the overall story into a continuous and enjoyable whole
  • production designer-Production Designers are major heads of department on film crews, and are responsible for the entire art department. They play a crucial role in helping directors to achieve the film's visual requirements, and in providing producers with carefully calculated schedules which offer viable ways of making films within agreed budgets and specified periods of time
  • marketing-the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising.
  • exhibition-a public display of works of art or items of interest, held in an cinemas or at premier etc.
